The bird that sits on the shoreline cannot sing. His dinner will ripple to his feet, entwined with the water. The leaves will whistle in the wind as the sun falls, inviting his return. The sand will crinkle under his weight, and he will know he is supported. Still, he cannot answer their call. The song of the bird does not invite. His breath on this earth is limited, and he will not waste it, though he dearly wants to. For his voice exists only to repel, he encourages no comfort.

The bird will fly, and wind will push him toward the horizon. Waves will clap underneath his weightless wings. The music in his small world will hold a significance, though he will hardly know it. Despite the aggression in his utterance, his home sings behind him. Despite his silence, their harmonies do not cease. The solitude of the shoreline bird is his entire existence, and he cannot reciprocate the tunes of his protectors. While the bird wallows in his wretchedness, the waves, leaves, sand, and the wind will come together, and alleviate his plight.
