Fall 2023

Cover Art Winner: Romanticized Innocence by Corrine

Editor’s Note

Dear reader,

Nostalgia is universal to people of all age backgrounds, which is why we chose this theme for our second issue. Though only youth, we can still recognize that fuzzy feeling: a yearning for better times, that excitement when a familiar song comes on the radio, or that fleeting melancholy from certain sights and smells. Growing up and reminiscing old memories are experiences common to everyone around the world, regardless of country or culture.

After the explosive global success of our first issue, I wanted to maintain our momentum while continuing our mission of highlighting diverse global stories. And I am beyond grateful and glad to say that I believe the Gazette did just that with this issue.

For this issue, we received submissions from talented young writers across 6 different continents. We wish we could accept all of them, but only 38 of the brightest gems made it to the pages of this issue. You will read about family and friends, about loneliness, childhood, graduation, collard greens, and hopscotch. You will read about what takes writers from the United States, Brazil, Cambodia, Australia, and many more, back to their magical nostalgic days.

To all submitters and contributors of this issue: Thank you. Your entries this cycle have been absolutely amazing, and the entire Gazette team echoes this sentiment. From encapsulating and embodying to challenging and twisting our perception of the theme, this season’s stanzas and lines have shaped the meaning of nostalgia. Originality, creativity, and emotion this issue were unparalleled.

Happy nostalgic reading,

Chloe Chang
